Remembering a hero in the field

As the crack of ball on bat echoes around stadiums in the United Arab Emirates, where Pakistan has inflicted all manner of misery on Australia, the Gymkhana Club in Lahore is getting ready to stage a game of cricket that will be every bit as meaningful for the people involved.

This is not international cricket – that hasn’t happened in Pakistan since terrorists opened fire on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009. But former Pakistan batsman Ijaz Ahmed and out-of-favour wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal are among the confirmed starters and the cause has captured the attention and support of Australian cricketers.
